They may or may not be the best all around cars, but I still want an E60 M5. Because V10.

A guy a bit up the way from me just moved in with one of these. has a nice sounding exhaust on it, I see him drive by every few days but still haven't figured out exactly where he lives to go say hi and drool. sounds great though and makes me want to spend stupid money on one too. Also, his is a real manual transmission...

I've recently been thinking about ditching my 135 for an E60 M5, all for the sake of glorious exhaust noise. This doesn't help.

I like the 135i, but V10 bro. Also acceptable is the M6 V10. If you ever pull the trigger definitely show us here!

I second that, just yes.

V10s are so underrated when it comes to engines.

If nothing else, they're something different. There are lots of (expensive) V12's, but only a handful of V10's. The LFA, Gallardo, and R8 will probably never be affordable to the common man. The M5/6 and the Audi S6/8 are starting to be approachable in price to normal people at $25k-$30k. Probably good candidates for DeMuro's Carmax warranty.

An interesting note: our friend Matt Farah commented on the latest Smoking Tire Podcast that the E60 M5 was better with the SMG, although he said the SMG was terrible, so there's that.

Yeah, the sound is my main reason for liking them, V8 and V12 cars often sound powerful, but V10s just sound fast and the rarity is a nice bonus.
Also one of the perks of living in the UK is access to cheap V12s cars.
Plus all our trucks/lorries run on 6 cylinders so we can't even go down the Viper route.

Agreed.
I hesitated to mention the XJ-S. I've always loved the styling, but am terrified of the rest of the car. I'd like to see something like a Singer Lite XJ-S with the whole car completely sorted and all the known faults redone.
Yeah, oddly the Viper is the one V10 that doesn't sound especially good. The earlier models are about $30k also, but I'm not sure I'd want one. They seem to be what I imagine certain TVRs to be: good looking, very fast, and exciting, but terrible in every other aspect.

Yeah, that's fair even I will admit buying a car made by country men pre-2006 requires balls of carbon fibre/fiber or deep pockets.
That said used cars are expensive out in the colonies (any English speaking country, that isn't England, no USA vs UK nonsense here), cars like the S6 & M5 are half the price over here, I wonder why?

I'd expect local brands to be less expensive. For normal cars, you might be right that used cars are less expensive in the UK. I'd expect that has at least something to do with your higher road taxes. Another thing is that your fuel prices are much higher and newer cars are typically more efficient so maybe there's less incentive to keep and/or buy an older car? I think also many used European luxury cars depreciate very fast because the cost of maintenance is generally quite high.
Here is a good looking early E60 M5. It's priced at about $30k US, which is a bit under £18k. Here is a very similar car advertised at £20k.

I was just looking these up on CarMax last night thinking about how quickly you could go through the warranty. It's too bad they don't show the price of those warranties online.
